The Parkinson's Disease Foundation presents Motivating Moves for People with Parkinson's - Janet Hamburg's Seated Exercise Program
A unique program of 24 short, stimulating exercises especially for people with Parkinson's. The seated exercises will improve your breathing, flexibility, sense of balance, vocal range, and more. Caregivers and friends have found Janet Hamburg's exercise program to be beneficial and enjoyable, as well.
Features three color-coded sections for easy cueing:
How to Do Motivating Moves (45 minutes)
The Exercise Class (36 minutes
Practical Tips for Daily Living (4 minutes)
You don't have to have Parkinson's to benefit from these exercises. They're good for anyone interested in exercising while seated on a chair or in a wheelchair.
Practice the exercises in Section 1 until you feel ready for Section 2: "The Exercise Class." It's best to do the exercises in order to prepare your mind and body for the exercises that follow. Take as many "wriggle breaks" and pauses as you like. If you feel pain, stop what you're doing. Relax. Continue when you feel ready.
Everyone is different. you may choose to do this program each day, a few times a week, or just once a week. You may start with just the first few exercises and gradually add more.
Parkinson's disease affects one's ability to perform everyday movements. Section 3: "Practical Tips for Daily Living" will remind you of some helpful strategies.
