They're a diverse, far-flung group of lawyers, scientists, educators, musicians with something in common. Nearly two decades ago, they struggled and triumphed together in a rigorous program in which they learned to achieve success through hard work, perserverance and...dance. This program revisits and reunites some of the original participants in the National Dance Institute (NDI), the groundbreaking project founded in 1976 by New York City Ballet principal dancer Jacques d'Amboise.
The film shows these young professionals at work and at play, and gives viewers a glimpse of how their lives have been shaped by their encounters with the ever-enthusiastic d'Amboise. Who's Dancin' Now? pays tribute to the profound impact of early exposure to the arts and reveals just how far-reaching one arts program can be. Former students reveal how the lessons they learned from the NDI experience helped them overcome fears and obstacles and realize their potential. Their stories are intercut with reflections from d'Amboise and scenes from the Oscar-winning documentary "He Makes Me Feel Like Dancin'," the 1983 film that traced NDI children from tryouts to rehearsals to a Madison Square Garden debut.
