This DVD follows modern dance pioneer Hanya Holm's path from her home in Germany to the United States where she established a dance school for her mentor Mary Wigman. Holm earned a place in the "Big Four" as one of the four founders of modern dance in America along side Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey and Charles Weidman. Hanya Holm also choreographed for Broadway musicals such as My Fair Lady, Camalot and Kiss Me Kate.
Hanya:Portrait Of A Pioneer is introduced by Julie Andrews and narrated by Alfred Drake. Included is archival footage of interviews with Holm and her students (Murray Louis, Alwin Nikolais, Harold Lang).
