Finis Jhung gives insightful instruction for the Advanced Beginner in this Center Floor work DVD. Teachers and dancers will love this information that will help them work more efficiently. American Ballet Theatre's Kelley Waddell demonstrates fourteen combinations which include Battement Degages and Fondus, Pas de Bourrees, Temps Lie, Developpe, Pique Arabesque, Releves, Sautes and Changement de Pieds.
Mr. Jhung always takes you through each move showing you where you weight should be and how you should be shifting to the next position. For example, in the exercises featuring pique arabesque he makes sure you are placing yourself correctly in the pique. He uses a plumb line to show you where the demonstrating student's chin and chest are in relation to her foot. He also reminds you to discover and use the degree of turnout which your, particular body can sustain in this position. On this advanced beginner level, he does not gloss over the everyday connecting steps such as chasse pas-de-bouree, but makes sure you are doing them effectively. He points out that the energy in those preparatory steps done correctly will, in a couple of years, be sending the student into the air. More advanced students will find the opportunity to perfect head and hand movements as he fine tunes the performance of the professional dancer who is demonstrating the exercises.
If you cannot afford a private instructor to help you practice ballet at home every day that you don't have a live class, Finis Jhung videos are the next best thing.
